Transit Workers Seek Wage Hikes
The Transit Workers Union Local 100, which represents workers employed by New York City's Metropolitan Transport Authority say that they want wage increases tied to inflation. The demand is the first salary demand in the negotiations over a new contract. The old contract expired on Sunday. Though talks continued past a Monday deadline, the MTA said that they would continue negotiating, and the TWU said that they had no plans to strike. The MTA is attempting to cut costs by cutting wages, increasing workers' contributions to health care and changing overtime rules.
