Transportation workers and bus drivers in Santa Clarita are calling for City Council involvement in contract negotiations
Public bus drivers and other transit workers in Santa Clarita began strike action this week, and transportation services in the Santa Clarita area have been severely reduced. Santa Clarita transit workers are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and work for MV Transportation, the contracted public transit company. Many union members are calling for action from the City Council, as contract negotiations have lasted for over a year, and an agreement still hasn’t been reached. The City Council stated that they have no intention of getting involved in contract negotiations, but will work with both sides to get transportation services to return as quickly as possible. Santa Clarita City Council signed an emergency contract with another transportation company, Transit Systems, to provide temporary services and keep some bus routes running.
