Treading Carefully, Wal-Mart Enters Labor's Turf
As Wal-Mart prepares to open its first Chicago store, the company may be looking to make some changes to improve its image. Wal-Mart has drawn criticism from labor and community groups for many of its business practices and organized labor is very strong in Chicago. While it is doubtful that the company will change their position regarding unions, they have shown a willingness to work with community leaders and local businesses.
