Trump pushes U.S. labor board toward Republican control
President Donald Trump has nominated employment lawyer William Emanuel to fill the last vacancy on the NLRB. Emanuel has extensive experience defending employers before the NLRB, and is a member of the influential Federalist Society, a group which encouraged Trump to nominate Justice Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court. The National Restaurant Association and the National Retail Federation regarded Emanuel’s nomination with optimism, hoping he would help undo some NLRB rulings seen as favoring unions during the Obama administration. Marvin Kaplan, Trump’s other nominee, and William Emanuel are expected to have their confirmation hearings sometimes in the fall.
