Trump touts apprenticeships, turning to an issue with bipartisan support
President Trump signed an executive order to reform ApprenticeshipUSA in order to fill a skills gap that could be leaving millions of jobs unfilled. The grant program has a large deal of bipartisan support; it was previously backed by the Obama administration. President Trump has stated he believes that regulations have held the program back, and that he seeks to give more job training flexibility to labor unions, businesses, and trade associations. He and daughter Ivanka Trump also plan on encouraging businesses to expand apprenticeship programs in areas other than manufacturing. Although government officials have mixed reactions to the announcement, many industry associations have praised the move as a path to creating more fulfilling careers.
