TSA employees can vote on union representation, labor board rules
The Federal Labor Relations Authority decided Friday that Transportation Security Administration employees will be allowed to vote on union representation. TSA employees currently belong to both the American Federation of Government Employees and the National Treasury Employees Union but do not have collective bargaining rights. The workers will now vote on which union will exclusively represent them, with both saying that they expect to win. Both the AFGE and NTEU heralded the FLRA decision as a positive step forward to improve the working conditions and pay of the TSA employees. Despite being allowed to vote on union representation, the workers will still not be allowed to bargain collectively, something labor leaders say they will continue pushing Congress to change through legislation.
