Turkish labor union announces strike after stalled wage negotiations
Turkey’s largest labor confederation, TÜRK-İŞ, has announced a wave of strikes after failing to reach a wage agreement with government employers for 2025–2026. The move affects 600,000 public sector workers and comes after months of stalled talks amid rising inflation and deepening economic hardship. Union leaders rejected the government’s proposed pay increases as insufficient, citing the growing gap between wages and the cost of living. Strike actions are set to begin August 1 at state-run companies and could expand to hundreds of public workplaces. Unions are demanding significant wage hikes and a “prosperity share” to help offset inflation’s impact.
