Two unions compete to organize NH college staff
The UAW and AFSCME are going head to head with the rights to unionize New Hampshire's 3,070 public college employees as the prize. Both unions are trying to get a majority of the state's public college employees to sign union cards with the University of New Hampshire, Keene State College and Plymouth State University. Whichever of the two unions reaches a majority of employees signed first will win the right to organize and represent the college employees. Officials at UNH are attempting to discourage workers from trying to unionize, emphasizing the possibility of lost benefits that could result.
