U.A.W. Seeks a Strike Vote From Workers at Delphi
The latest chapter in the saga of Delphi and U.A.W. unfolded yesterday as the union announced that it had asked its 24,000 Delphi workers for permission to call a strike. Delphi is operating under bankruptcy protection, and has asked the courts for permission to set aside labor contracts and cut wages and benefits. If a strike does occur, it could force General Motors (Delphi's one-time parent and long-time business partner) into bankruptcy as well.
