U.K. Lawmakers Want Employers to Stop Forcing Women to Wear High Heels
Nicola Thorp sent waves through the United Kingdom last year when she was told to leave her job as a secretary at PwC because she refused to wear high heeled shoes. The incident prompted Parliament to conduct an inquiry, the results of which were published today. In its report, the members of Parliament announced that these discriminatory dress codes exist across the nation. The MPs believe that the current repercussions for companies with these discriminatory dress codes, which violate the Equality Act of 2010, are not a "sufficient deterrent" and are petitioning for them to be increased.
