U.S. labor agency approves 'micro-unit' in Macy's bargaining case
Cosmetics workers at the Saugus, MA Macy's store will be able to vote to form a single union according to a new decision by the National Labor Relations Board. The ruling allows 41 employees at the store to vote on whether to join the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW). Business leaders are concerned the decision will cause so-called "micro unions" to spread and disrupt relations between workers and employers. Representatives for Macy's stated they are disappointed in the decision, preferring that a unionization effort include all employees at the store.
