U.S. railroad workers feel ‘completely demoralized’ by new attendance policy
Workers and unions representing about 17,000 workers are criticizing a new restrictive attendance policy implemented by one of the largest railroad freight networks in the U.S. On February 1st the BNSF Railway implemented a new attendance system where workers are given 30 attendance points and are docked for taking any days off. The workers claim the system incentivizes going to work fatigued or ill. BNSF argues that the policy “will provide more predictability for train crews and provide more reliable crew availability.”
