U.S. Strengthens Rules to Protect Farm Workers From Pesticides
On Monday, officials with the U.S. Department of Labor and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released a new policy that will reduce the risk of illnesses and injuries from pesticide exposure on farms. One component of this policy is that children under the age of 18 are prohibited from having direct contact with pesticides. It is estimated that between 1,800 and 3,000 farmworkers become ill from pesticide exposure every year.
