UAW Chief Cautious on GM Deal
United Auto Workers President Ron Gettelfinger expressed concern on Tuesday over the proposed three-way alliance among General Motors Corp., Nissan Motor Co., and Renault SA, declaring that there was a "need to know how the existing workforce will be impacted in the short term and the long term." Industrial relations experts warn that UAW opposition could sour the proposed deal for GM, since the automaker is still participating in tense negotiations with the union over issues stemming from the bankruptcy of Delphi Corp., GM's leading auto parts supplier.
