UAW strikes could influence nonunion auto workers in the South and West toward union organization
As the United Auto Workers strike at the Big 3 Automakers continues, automotive workers around the country are paying attention to the fight between the UAW and Ford, Stellanis, and General Motors. Unionized automotive workers will be affected by the outcome of this strike action, and they are hoping to receive significant pay increases and the end of tiered pay. The strike action could affect workers at non-unionized automakers as well. The Big 3 Automakers are the only unionized automakers in the United States, and all other automotive companies, such as Tesla, Nissan, Toyota, and Honda, don’t employ unionized workers. Various non-unionized automotive workers are becoming interested in the growing labor movement, and are considering organizing and seeking representation from the UAW. However, many non-unionized workers still oppose union activity due to long-standing anti-union views in the Sunbelt region, fear of outsourcing, and the UAW’s controversial past.
