UAW Would Accept More Lower Wage Jobs
A United Auto Workers official said that they would consider any offer the automakers made that would keep jobs in the United States, including hiring more lower wage workers. The UAW says that it will look at building specific cars and trucks in the U.S. as a way to keep jobs, saying that negotiating wages and benefits only worked if there were jobs. He also said that while the UAW will probably stick to traditional pattern bargaining, that may change depending on the negotiations. The UAW will begin negotiations with GM, Ford and Chrysler later this year.
