Uber fires 20 amid investigation into workplace culture
Following an internal investigation, Uber fired 20 employees, including some senior executives, for harassment and discrimination. Concerns about employee treatment and discrimination in the company were reignited after a former engineer for Uber exposed management at the company for overlooking repeated sexual discrimination in February, bringing Uber’s executives under fire. The independent investigation has looked at over 200 cases of workplace violations concerning sexual harassment and discrimination; over half of the cases have resulted in no action being taken. Although many former employees believe that Uber’s problems stem from a systemic problem, board members are insistent that their problems are simply the fault of a select few workers.
