Uber Has a Union of Sorts, but Faces Doubts on Its Autonomy
The Independent Drivers Guild was formed one year ago to represent Uber drivers in the New York City area. It now represents approximately 50,000 drivers and has already convinced New York City's Taxi and Limousine Commission to propose a law that would add a tipping option on the Uber app. Despite this progress, labor leaders, activists, and experts are suspicious of the group's relationship with the ride-hailing company.
