UCSD medical staffers strike, defying judge
Union staffers at UC San Diego medical facilities have walked off the job, claiming wages are so low that as much as 96 percent of its membership qualifies for welfare, despite full-time employment. While union leaders say the strike hasn't hampered medical services at UCSD, Governor Schwarzenegger chided the almost 600 striking medical staffers for "using the welfare of innocent people as a bargaining chip" and calling for the union to end its walkout.
