UK professors represented by the University and College Union will vote on the renewal of strike authorization
The University and College Union in the United Kingdom has sent out a new strike authorization vote to professors and lecturers at various universities in the UK. If a majority of union members vote in favor, strike action will be renewed for the next six months. Previous strike action from professors occurred in September, and the strikes affected the first week of university for students at 34 different institutions. 140 universities are represented by the Universities and College Employees Association and the two parties reached a recent agreement about pensions that will restore previously reduced pension benefits. The University and College Union and the Universities and College Employees Association are still negotiating wage increases, zero-hour contracts, and temporary contracts.
