UK unemployment falls by 125,000 to 2.34 million
The UK has recorded its 15th consecutive month of declining unemployment rolls as of January. While the unemployment rate is still falling, it appears to be slowing as well. Unlike the rest of Europe, the UK appears to be handling the unemployment of women and youth well, with youth unemployment falling and more women working than ever recorded for the country. Additionally, earnings have increased by about 1.1% over the course of 2013. The Bank of England maintains that it will consider raising interest rates should the unemployment rate drop below 7%. It currently stands at 7.2%.
