UK workers end wildcat strike over foreign labour
After a union-brokered deal secured 100 jobs for British skilled workers at the Lindsey refinery in Britain, workers voted to end a week-long wildcat strike over foreign labor. The dispute stemmed from the use of Italian and Portuguese contract workers (rather than British workers) despite rising unemployment in the U.K. The unofficial strike generated much support from workers across England, resulting in a string of sympathy strikes throughout the week. The refinery workers will head back to work Monday.
