Unemployment claims increase due to coronavirus
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, first-time unemployment claims have increased by 33% in the last week. Economists and experts alike are concerned that unemployment benefits are inadequate and that Trump’s multi-billion dollar aid package fails to address key issues. It is estimated that unemployment could increase to 20% without financial intervention. Unfortunately, today unemployment insurance programs vary by state and are not available for gig workers or part-time workers who lose their jobs.
