Unemployment claims surpass six million
The number of individuals filing for unemployment benefits has just surpassed six million due to social distancing measures intended to slow the spread of coronavirus. Economists have stated that the pandemic has caused a recession and unemployment claims will most likely continue to rise. Last week a $2.3 trillion stimulus package was signed by the President to stimulate the economy and aid unemployed workers. The Labor Department has stated that workers continue to be let go from their jobs due to COVID-19 which has contributed to the record number of unemployment claims.
