Unemployment for Black Women at 4-Year Low
While other demographic groups see a leveling-off in unemployment and employment levels, in October 2013 Black women saw the greatest decline in their unemployment rate since September 2012. In addition, the overall unemployment rate for Black women, 10% in September 2013, was at its lowest level since March 2009. Valarie Wilson, of the National Urban League, said that a lot of the gains in jobs has been in the low paying hospitality and leisure sectors, but that smaller gains were also seen in the professional and business services sector.
