Unemployment passes two million
For the first time since 1997, unemployment in the United Kingdom has risen to over 2 million, with the number of people receiving unemployment aid from the government hitting almost 1.4 million. While Prime Minster Brown promised that the government would continue to do all it could to combat the country's first recession of this century, experts predict the number of unemployed will top 3 million by next year.
