From 2013 to 2014 India experienced a 4.9% increase in unemployment as residents of rural areas struggled to maintain employment. India reports a Labor Force Participation Rate of 52.5 percent, however 49.5 percent of those people claim to be self-employed. The unemployment rate among women has settled at 7.7 percent.
