Union at Vance AFB to vote on tentative deal
800 civilian workers at the Vance Air Force Base, represented by the International Union of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 898, ended a two-week long strike Saturday that began when contract renewal negotiations bogged down. The strike caused a number of flight trainers and students to be moved to another Texas air base for a week. The contract includes a 3.75% wage hike, and a 20-cent per hour pension increase each contract year. Union officials have called the deal "ok," saying it's not exactly what they wanted but it's not bad. The vote will take place throughout the day Monday, and if approved, employees will return to work Monday, and planes to the air Friday.
