Union charges Cintas violated labor laws
The United Needletrades and Industrial Textile Employees union officially announced a nationwide organizing drive aimed at the largest uniform rental service in the U.S. yesterday, filing numerous complaints against the company for illegal anti-union activities. According to the charges filed in seventeen cities throughout the U.S. and Canada, the 17,000-employee Cintas Corporation has engaged in a coordinated company-wide anti-union campaign in response to organizing efforts begun by its employees and UNITE representatives a month before the announcement. Cintas Corp. responded to the charges by accusing UNITE of trying to force it into a card-check recognition agreement in which a majority of workers at the company would be able to choose union representation without having to go through a drawn out National Labor Relations Board election.
