Union chief Lee Moak had key merger role
In the wake of their newly minted merger with Northwest Airlines, Delta executives have been singing the praises of an unlikely friend: Delta pilots union chief Lee Moak. Insiders on both sides of the merger cite Moak's early involvement in negotiations as a key element in aiding the merger's passing, working out a new deal for the union as a condition to approving the merger's terms. Critics charge, however, that Moak betrayed fellow pilots in Northwest by freezing them out of negotiations, leaving them with none of the choice prizes Delta pilots will get out of the merger, including a 3.5 equity stake in the new venture.
