Union declares impasse in contract talks with L.A. County
Hundreds of administrators have been called into do the work of 4,000 SEIU-represented social workers in Los Angeles County when they went on strike today after reaching an impasse during negotiations with the county. Both the county and the union agree that the strike is perfectly legal. The union, which represents over 55,000 county employees, has been negotiating for over two months. Agreements have been reached on wage increases, increasing health insurance premiums, and signing bonuses, but caseloads and the timing of monetary changes are still in contention. The strike will affect the county's Department of Children and Family Services almost exclusively.
