The Service Employees International Union laid off about 75 organizers and field staff, resulting in a protest outside of the union headquarters in Washington today. SEIU claims the layoffs were made because organizing efforts are being moved to local unions. The Union of Union of Representatives believes otherwise, however, and has accused SEIU of age and race discrimination in unfair labor practice charges already filed.
