Union Expects 15,000 to 20,000 G.M. Workers to Take Buyouts
United Automobile Workers president Ron Gettelfinger said Thursday that he expects 15,000 to 20,000 workers to accept the General Motors Corp.'s latest round of buyout offers and be replaced by lower-paid employees. This would represent a marked decrease from a similar round of buyouts in 2006, a change Gettelfinger credits to worsening economic conditions.
