Union: GM agrees to pay $50M more for Delphi retiree health care
The IUE-CWA has reached an agreement with the new GM which will see $50 million more given to retirees under the age of 65, who are finding it difficult to keep up with rising health care costs. IUE-CWA President Jim Clark says the situation has been trying for former Delphi Corps employees, some of whom stood to lose half their income without an improved agreement. Details of the deal have not been specified yet, but it is thought that GM will now end coverage of Medicaid-eligible retirees, and that life insurance of $10,000 will now be assured for all retirees. The agreement covers not only IUE-CWA members, but also retirees from the IBEW, USW, IBT, and a number of other unions. The IUE-CWA expressed distate for the UAW, which settled health care with GM in August, without including any other unions in its negotiations.
