Union grocery workers authorize strike
94% of 25,000 grocery workers in Washington State have voted to reject a contract proposal from a group of stores. The vote also gave the union permission to declare a strike. Employees say that the offer included cuts to pay, hours and pension and health benefits. Workers say that the cuts the stores want will hurt them too much. Workers also say that if they were to strike, the holiday season would be the best time to do it, but that they would rather not go on strike if they do not have to. The stores say that there is a proposal that will raise pay and pension and health benefits, and that they want to return to negotiations to get a contract
