Union seeks to organize airport workers and raise hourly wages at American Airlines airport hubs in the South
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is the second largest union in America, and recently, it has been focusing its organizing efforts on unionizing airport workers at airports that are American Airline hubs. Most airport workers work for smaller contractors, rather than the airlines themselves, and the union seeks to unionize these employees to help raise their hourly wages. The SEIU argues that wages for airport workers have been stagnant for many years near the poverty line, which has disproportionately affected immigrants and people of color. This past Friday, the union was successful in winning a union election at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
