Union, shippers reach accord on contract
The 25,000 West Coast longshore workers and the companies who represent them have come to an agreement on a six-year contract to replace the pact that expired July 1, both sides said in a statement Monday evening. Details were not disclosed, as both sides want to first brief their members. Additionally, the agreement must still be ratified by the union?s members and the employers? group. Negotiations began March 17, with both sides saying they wanted to reach agreement on a contract before the contract expired
