Union Stumbles in Challenge to Idaho’s Right-to-Work Law
A union in Idaho is struggling to continue its case regarding the state’s right-to-work law. Right-to-work legislation generally regards the prohibition of union membership requirements. This case contests the elimination of member’s dues to Idaho’s IUOE Local 370. On October 24th Judge Edward J. Lodge of the U.S. District Court dismissed the court case, but Local 370 is strongly considering appealing the verdict. Judge Lodge remarked himself that Idaho’s right-to-work legislation poses an “open question”. Union attorney Zoe Palitz stated her hope that a higher court will recognize that “it’s both unfair and contrary to Congress’s intent to require unions to represent workers entirely for free”.
