Union support grows in popularity amidst increased leverage in tight labor market
Recently, workers have benefitted from a tight labor market that has increased their bargaining power to demand better wages and benefits from their employers because they have alternate job opportunities. This has contributed to successful union organizing at large companies like Amazon, Starbucks, and Chipotle. As a result of the wave of unionization, it has been reported that public support in favor of the unions has been reinvigorated. However, despite the influx in unionization efforts and recent national attention, overall union membership in America is still on the decline.
