Union takes migrant worker fight to Tesco AGM
British supermarket giant Tesco has come under fire from trade unions in England on charges that it has exploited migrant workers employed in its meat and poultry supply chains. The Unite union has accused Tesco of forcing migrant workers to work overtime without pay and discriminating against them in favor of permanent staff, most of whom are indigenous. Company shareholders are expected to vote this week on a resolution brought forward by Unite alleging unfair treatment of its migrant workers. Tesco board members, however, say the union has presented no evidence of the allegations.
