Union, University Resolve Portion of Remaining Challenged Ballots
During Harvard University’s NLRB board hearing concerning graduate student unionization, 62 of the 252 challenged ballots were resolved. Over eleven days, it was determined that 27 ballots were eligible, while 35 ballots were not. Union organizers and Harvard’s administration also argued the eligibility of the remaining votes. The University argued that first-years in the Organismic and Evolutionary Biology department are not student-workers because most do not complete research. They claimed that Graduate School of Design teaching assistants also do not function fully as student-workers, despite a student’s description that the University claims is overstated. The union disputes these assessments of the graduate student’s work.
