Union warns House Democrats of retaliation for opposing Keystone XL
The Laborers? International Union of North America (LIUNA) sent out a letter to members in 27 congressional districts urging them to vote against House Democrats who opposed the Keystone XL pipeline. All 27 Representatives had signed a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry asking him to take action against the pipeline?s construction. LIUNA is one of the nation?s largest building trades unions and stated that while it opposes further increasing greenhouse gas emissions, it fully supports a project that would bring jobs to its members. Although the Republican-controlled House has passed measures giving the $5.4 billion project a go and it enjoys a majority of support in the Senate, procedure has kept ground from being broken for over five years.
