Unionization Effort at Amazon Continues
As the unionization effort intensifies at Amazon's warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama, Amazon has emphasized its compensation package. The company called attention to the fact that its basely of $15.50 an hour for most rank-and-file workers is more than twice the local minimum wage. Additionally, Amazon has emphasized it comprehensive health insurance and retirement benefits. It is common for employers facing a union vote to emphasize the generosity of their wages and to suggest that workers could be worse off if they unionize. However, when considering geography there is added impact, as incomes are traditionally lower and jobs are more sparse in the South.
