Unionized city workers in San Jose set to strike on August 15th
Two unions representing thousands of San Jose city workers have voted to authorize strike action starting on August 15th. The strike is anticipated to last for three days, and many public services in San Jose will be shut down or disrupted due to strike action. The International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers and the Municipal Employees Federation-American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees represents city workers in various sectors, including parks and recreation employees, code enforcement officers, and San Jose airport workers. The unions are calling for greater wages and benefits for employees, and for new measures to increase recruitment and retention efforts. Contract negotiations between the unions and the city of San Jose have stalled, and city management states that there are not enough resources to meet current union demands.
