Unionized Cornell workers ratify new contract, ending strike action
Unionized workers at Cornell voted earlier this week in favor of the tentative agreement reached by the university and the union. Workers are represented by the United Auto Workers union, and the two parties agreed on a tentative contract after workers went on a two-week strike. Over seventy percent of workers voted to ratify the contract, and the contract will increase pay and improve employee benefits for workers. The new contract will increase wages by 21 to 25.4 percent over the next four years. Workers began returning to work this week following the vote, and maintenance and dining services that were disrupted by strike action will resume normal operations. The strike action is the longest recorded walkout in Cornell history.
