Unions and Pension Plans Hurt in Financier's Scheme
In addition to the high profile names and charities who took a major hit in the recent Madoff scheme, at least six construction unions had pension and health care funds with the asset manager. Those affected include locals of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Plumbers & Steamfitters union, as well as roofers and carpenters unions in upstate New York. Some unions have already sought help from congress over lost funds. Several public pensions funds may have also been invested in the Ponzi scheme.
