Unions battle to represent 45,000 Kaiser Permanente workers
Two health care unions are seeking to represent workers at Kaiser Permanente, the National Union of Healthcare Workers and the Service Employees International-United Health Care Workers. SEIU-UHW is the current representative for more than 45,000 Kaiser workers in California. NUHW is being supported by the California Nurses Association. The unit consists of employees who are not doctors, nurses or managers. The election for union representation is the second in 3 years. Kaiser workers voted for NUHW is 2010, but the election was thrown out by the National Labor Relations Board.
