Unions call on AMR board to support U.S. Air merger
The unions that represent American Airlines' pilots, flight attendants and ground workers have written a letter to the board of the company asking it to support a merger with US Airways. The unions, who represent 55,000 workers, say that a merger would save jobs, increase revenue and be good for both airlines. American has said that they are not interested in a merger, and that they will continue forward with plans to have a bankruptcy court judge override contracts with workers to allow them to cut costs.
