Unions celebrate Labor Day at rallies against Rauner’s policies
Thousands of union members in Chicago gathered outside the State of Illinois building this Labor in a stand against Gov. Bruce Rauner. The Republican Governor vetoed a bill last week that would have increased the minimum wage in Illinois from $8.25 to $15 by the year 2022, insisting that the bill would do more harm to the working people of Illinois than good. Protesters at the rally argue that Rauner is using his office to attack working families and that shooting down the living wage bill will only intensify financial insecurity for thousands of employees earning minimum wage in the years to come.
