Union's Deal With Cuomo May Prevent 3,500 Layoffs
The Public Employees Federation, which voted down a contract with the state last month, has reached a new deal with the governor. The governor says that if the deal is approved on Monday by the union's executive board he will suspend the 3,500 layoffs until members have voted. The layoffs were set to be implemented on Wednesday. The new deal would last four years and changes the way compensation would be paid for furlough days. PEF says that the changes reflect the concerns of their members, and that they hope the deal will be approved.
